This collection includes marriage bonds, marriage certificates, applications for marriage licenses, marriage licenses, and marriage registrations. In some cases more than one of these are available for the same person. In general the certificates have a smaller file size than the registers, but it is always a good idea to check both.
When searching these records you may use wildcards which is very helpful with names that are commonly misspelled.
For example if you enter the search: Ottis Kisinger you will find the entry for his marriage to Elizabeth Speak on 24 February 1831. The index tells us this is a record from Berkeley County, but the marriage record itself does not.
A search for Otho Kisinger gives us the marriage bond for Otho Kissinger and Elizabeth Speck. It is dated 15 February 1831 in Berkely County.
A search for Ottis Kissinger gives us an entry for his marriage to Elizabeth Speck on 24 February 1831 in the marriage register for Berkeley County. The entry also inculudes the name of the person performing the marriage.
A search for O*to K*singer would give all three results.
